His tattoos kind of help with his power, as they count as glyphs as well, along with the ones on his keyblade. He can activate these markings whenever he pleases to draw power from the crystal in his ear, and when he hits an enemy, whether its through the use of a physical attack or a long range beam attack, they become covered in Atlantean-style markings, like his. It slowly saps their energy, thus transferring their energy to him and allowing him use of it, but in limited amounts, depending on his power and health levels. Also, if the glyphs have different designs, they have different effects and different strengths. One kind could sap HP, another MP, boost his physical or magical properties temporarily, and sometimes status effects (on him), both positive and negative. (Pos: Aero, Neg: Stop, poison) Also, if he has enough stored energy in his keyblade and crystal, he can energize the power of the glyphs and cause them to explode on the enemy. He has yet to unlock more abilities.

It can range from physical damage to elemental damage, or they may cause status effects, all really by chance. If he is weaker, the damage is weaker, and the likelihood of a negative status effect being cast on him is much higher.
